Brainiac Attacks...

As I was shopping at my local Target, I saw a Superman animated DVD I have never seen before. "Superman: Braininc Attacks" looked like it would be a really good flick. All of the other straight to DVD animated movies have been pretty decent. Batman: The Mystery of the Batwoman, Batman Beyond: The Return of the Joker, Batman & Superman: Worlds Finest and Justice League: Star Crossed, just to name a few, have all exceeded my expectations. So "Brainiac Attacks" couldn't be that bad right? I was so so so wrong.

I won't give anything away, but the story was not that great. Superman and Lex Luther team up to take down Superman. Didn't this already happen in Superman's animated series and in Justice League Unlimited? The other thing that really bugged about this move was the lack of Clancy Brown, the original voice of Lex Luther. They got Powers Boothe (who ever the hell he is) to do Lex. He SUCKED! AND! Lex was not suave and tactful like he has been in the TV series, he was more mad scientist meets campy. And don't even get me started on Brainiac's voice. SUCKED!

A few good things about the film.
Tim Daly back as Superman's voice
Dana Delany as Lois
AND!
The loss of Jimmy Olson's mullet (thank god!)

For what it is, it's an ok film. One thought did come to mind... why even bother? "Attacks" finds its place at the bottom of the list of straight to DVD films from Warner Bro's Animation.

Interesting, sometimes cartoon network will play the direct to movies on their network as a special. I have caught a few but they are often on there a year after they have been released. I hate it when they change people voices.

Thanks for the warning. I guess they did it for the Superman Returns hype then.
